Notes

Tomasz Schafernaker is both an artist and meteorologist for the BBC, with a broadcasting career spanning over two decades. Schafernaker was born in Gdańsk, Poland and graduated from The University of Reading in 2000 with a BSc in Meteorology. After qualifying as a weather forecaster, he became the youngest male to present the weather for the BBC in 2001. He was voted ‘Favourite Weather Presenter’ by readers of the Radio Times and TRCI award winner. As an artist, he works with various traditional media such as acrylics, watercolours, oils, graphite, and pencils, as well as digital illustration. He has appeared in numerous art programs and in 2021 his painting won first place in Sky Art’s Celebrity Landscape Artist Of The Year.

Lagoon is an abstract painting displaying a rich array of textures reminiscent of a tropical ocean floor as seen through the crystal-clear waters of a lagoon. The geology has been achieved by   integrating various acrylic media with natural elements such as sand and crushed volcanic rock. The three dimensional effect of coral reefs invites the viewer to explore the hidden mysteries of the sea.
